Training

Training at Tameside Pistol Club is built around consistency, supervision and doing things properly from the start. Whether you are completely new to shooting or returning with previous experience, the approach is the same - clear instruction, steady progression and close attention to safety.

Getting Started as a New Member

All new members begin with a structured introduction to the range. This follows a recognised training process based on NRA standards, ensuring that everyone learns the same fundamentals in a consistent way.

During this stage, you will be guided through:

There is no pressure to rush - the focus is on building confidence and understanding before progressing further.

Probationary Period

New members complete a probationary period where they continue to develop under supervision. This allows time to reinforce safe habits, become familiar with the range setup, and gain confidence in a controlled setting.

Range officers and experienced members are always present to provide guidance and ensure that standards are maintained throughout.

Ongoing Development

Training does not stop after the initial stages. Members are encouraged to continue improving their technique, consistency and understanding of different shooting disciplines.

The club follows recognised guidance for shooting activities and safeguarding, including principles aligned with national organisations such as the NRSA. This ensures that all training remains structured, appropriate and responsibly managed.

How Sessions Are Run

All shooting sessions take place under supervision, with clear procedures in place at all times. The range setup - including fixed firing points and target retrieval systems - supports a consistent and organised approach to training.

Members are expected to follow instructions from range officers and adhere to established protocols, ensuring that every session runs safely and smoothly.

A Practical, Supportive Approach

The aim of training at Tameside Pistol Club is not just to teach shooting, but to develop responsible, capable members who understand the importance of discipline and control.

If you are considering joining and would like to see how training works in practice, you are welcome to get in touch or arrange a visit to the club.
